The "colorized" races from the B&W era (before almost ANY color TV coverage of races) are just superb. This one in particular is special (first of 105 wins for "The Silver Fox", Lee Petty Engineering trying to keep the future "King" and company going with papa Lee still laying in the hospital. Also it's the final race for 3 time NASCAR champ Tim Flock).

Now this is cool! Thanks for sharing this race. I was born in 1967 so I wasn't able to see any of these races. My first experience watching NASCAR wasn't until 1972-73? Even then I was a kid who'd watch, then race his Hot Wheels and Matchbox Die-Cast cars. However I saw enough back then to get hooked on racing. Richard Petty was my favorite driver. Mario Andretti was my favorite Indy-Car driver. Back in the 70's the cars had such an iconic look! I'm thankful that I get a chance to watch this race, and see the cars that they raced. I've really become fascinated with classic sports, movies, television, and music from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Now the 70's and 80's I grew up with so I remember how amazing it was. However the more I watch nowadays television, movies, sports, and listen to the music, UGH the music......💩💩💩💩💩 AWFUL! Channels like this are such a great way to reminisce. Thank you again.

The driver who lost a leg, from knee down, don't remember his name, but he made it back to racing and won many local races. Couldn't do Nascar due to a dispute about his accident here, until it got settled years later. That's a great story of perseverance itself, watched it on YT recently.

Chris Economaki with the narration! He was the editor The National Speed Sport News and did race coverage for ABC's Wide World of Sports for years. For many, he was the voice of NASCAR events when they were distilled down to 20-25 minutes on Wide World of Sports. on Saturday afternoons.

Watched RUclips clips from the 60 and 61 World 600's and listened to the transition of driver names.
Lee Petty, Tom Pistone, Bob Wellborn, Jim Beauchamp, Speedy Thompson, the Flock Brothers, et al are giving way to David Pearson, Richard Petty, Fred Lorenzen, Junior Johnson, Fireball Roberts et al. The 50's give way to the 60's. The torch is passed.

Those were real men driving real cars. They risked everything every lap. Was happy to see Ralph racing on a Superspeedway. From what i understand he liked being "home" more than traveling NASCAR'S circuit. Not to mention he was winning more money racing on dirt. Probably the best dirt track stockcar driver in the country in the 50's and early to mid 60's. GOD BLESS every one of these guys.

I believe they would record the full races but chop it up and present it as 20-30 minute presentation. The 1979 Daytona 500 was the first 500 mile race shown flag to flag. Full race broadcast didn't really start to become a thing until the 1980s.
